Remembering Jill Goddard – A Celebration of a Remarkable Life

On Saturday 11 July 2026, residents, family, friends, colleagues and partners came together to celebrate the life and extraordinary legacy of Jill Goddard, the founding Chair of Webber & Quentin TMO. The day was filled with heartfelt tributes, music, reflection and friendship, celebrating a woman whose vision, dedication and leadership helped shape the community we know today.

The day began with a Fish & Chips Memorial Gathering at Masters Super Fish, fulfilling one of Jill's final wishes. Jill wanted those whose lives she had touched to come together over a traditional fish and chips meal, sharing stories, laughter and memories in the spirit of friendship and community that she valued so deeply. The gathering was kindly sponsored by Jill's family, whose generosity enabled everyone to honour her wish and celebrate her life together.

Guests included members of the Webber & Quentin, residents, our TMO Manager and contractors, representatives from Southwark Council, former work colleagues, close friends and members of Jill's family, including her beloved nephews.

During the afternoon, a number of heartfelt tributes were shared. Speakers reflected on Jill's unwavering commitment to resident empowerment and her determination to ensure local people always had a genuine voice in decisions affecting their homes and neighbourhood. They also spoke of the many charitable causes Jill supported beyond her voluntary work with Webber & Quentin TMO, demonstrating her lifelong commitment to helping others and making a positive difference wherever she could.

Many recalled her integrity, compassion and quiet determination, describing how she inspired others to become involved, encouraged people to believe in themselves and always placed residents at the heart of everything she did. Her ability to bring people together and build lasting relationships was a recurring theme throughout the day.

For many, Jill was not only the founding Chair of Webber & Quentin TMO but also a mentor, colleague and trusted friend. Her leadership helped establish the strong foundations on which the TMO continues to thrive today, and her influence can still be seen in the values of openness, respect and community spirit that remain central to the organisation.

One of the highlights of the afternoon was a wonderful musical performance by Lockie Chapman, a Webber & Quentin resident and former member of a band. His songs provided a fitting soundtrack to the occasion, bringing moments of joy, reflection and celebration that Jill herself would undoubtedly have appreciated.

Later in the day, residents and guests gathered in Webber Row Garden for a touching memorial ceremony. Guests reflected on Jill's love of the garden and her commitment to creating welcoming community spaces before a beautiful 'Jill' rose was planted in her memory and a moving reading of the poem "God's Garden" A commemorative plaque was also unveiled on one of the garden benches, creating a lasting tribute where residents can pause, reflect and remember Jill for many years to come.

Webber & Quentin TMO would also like to extend its sincere thanks to everyone who helped make this memorable day possible. In particular, we would like to thank our TMO Manager, Siraj, for coordinating the events; Siobhan, Chair of the TMO Garden Committee, for her dedication in organising the beautiful garden memorial; Helen Bingham, one of Jill's closest friends, for her invaluable support and guidance throughout; and Jill's nephew, Andy Low, whose commitment helped ensure that Jill's final wishes were fulfilled. Their hard work, together with the support the TMO Board and everyone involved behind the scenes, made the day a fitting and heartfelt celebration of Jill's life and legacy.

Jill Goddard's legacy will continue to live on through the people she inspired, the community she helped build and the values she championed throughout her life. Her belief in people, her dedication to public service, her tireless commitment to residents and her generosity towards others have left an enduring mark on Webber & Quentin TMO and beyond. She will always be remembered with gratitude, affection and deep respect as an exceptional community leader, colleague, mentor and friend whose contribution to our community will never be forgotten.
